Abbotsford Health News

An Abbotsford local philanthropist, Vivian Trethewey, donated $1 million to Abbotsford Regional Hospital (ARH) to enable it to get a new CT scanner. The donation was motivated by the campaign to fund the replacement of one of the hospital’s CT scanners made by the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation early 2018.

According to the executive director of the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation, the scanner to be replaced runs round the clock, all year round and performed more than 30,000 scans in 2017. Moreover, the donated fund will cover the entire cost of the replacement; this allows the foundation to look into replacing the second scanner.

The 93-year-old philanthropist, Trethewey, said that she had mapped out a sum of money to donate with a purpose to help those struggling with addiction and poverty. Moreover, she had donated $100,000 and above to organizations like Kinghaven Treatment Center, that specializes in treating addictions. She also pointed out that she still has about $1.5 million to donate and would likely donate to organizations working on addictions and poverty.
