The patients’ committee discovered a couple of problems almost immediately after the opening of the Nouveau CHUM. Some of the problems discovered with the newly built $2 billion Nouveau CHUM include elevator door that closes very quickly, the absence of signage, heavy doors that are difficult to push open, and bathrooms with soap dispensers that are too high for patients in wheelchairs.

To address these concerns, the superhospital will dedicate the next four months to fixing and automating up to 80 bathroom doors and doors to external clinics. Furthermore, the full cost of the work will be absorbed by the private consortium that built the Nouveau CHUM.

Several of the outlined problems, such as problems with the signage, elevator door and so forth, have been addressed. However, the doors are yet to be fixed and automated. The hospital receives fragile and disabled patients; this makes it very necessary to automate the doors.
