On August 25, 2022, Insurdinary's research staff set out to conduct their third survey with 40 people on the subject of if people knew someone who has been injured or hospitalized on vacation. The results were staggering!
The Differing Results
When asked "Do you know someone who has been injured or hospitalized on vacation?" 77.5% of people said yes, and 22.5% of people said no.
Of the folks that were spoken to:
- 16 were males - 13 said yes, 3 said no
- 24 were females - 18 said yes, 6 said no
- 18 of those people were 18-29 years of age
- 7 of those people were 30-55 years of age
- 15 of those people were 55+
There seemed to be a pretty clear majority, as many people either ended up in the hospital themselves or knew someone. People also shared some interesting stories with us about the different injuries people they knew sustained while on vacation.
Some of the reasons that people ended up in the hospital on vacation were:
- Foot injury
- Hospitalized for panic attack
- Broken arm
- Slippery slide
- Heat stroke
- Needed stitches
- Gall bladder explosion
- Hit in the head with a coconut
- Major stubbed toe
- Fell off a balcony
- Stepped on a sea urchin
- Fatal injury
There are a multitude of unexpected ways one could injure themselves on vacation and end up in the hospital. Medical bills abroad can be incredibly costly. Paying out of pocket can not only put a damper on your much deserved vacation, but also on your wallet. This data is proof that life can be unpredictable.
