Crystal Davies, a Manning woman, was excited that her four-year-old Lakeland terrier, Scout, would compete at 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Scout was invited to the Westminster Dog Show after competing in several shows in the United States. Up to the time, he has been participating in competitions for three-and-a-half years.

Davies said she has always dreamed to be in Westminster. “I remember watching it when I was very little and the whole time I was like, ‘I’m going to go there someday’.” She also thinks her dog knows he’s about to embark on a memorable trip.

Scout’s handler and breeder Torri Alloway helped her to prepare the dog for the event. The preparation included grooming him and making him ready for the show. Davies said the dog is easily distracted at times, so they also helped to keep his mind focused on the job at hand.

Scout, whose full name is GCH Northcote’s Fire Ranger and sired by CH Northcote's No Doubt, won Best of Opposite Sex in the prestigious show. This is an excellent performance considering the show is for the bests of the best.
