On July 14, 2022, Insurdinary's research staff set out to conduct their second survey with 52 people on the subject of whether or not the COVID-19 pandemic changed their opinion on travel insurance. The results were quite interesting as peoples thoughts and opinions varied.
The Differing Results
When asked "Has the COVID-19 pandemic changed your opinion on travel insurance"? 60% of people said yes, and 40% of people said no.
Of the folks that were spoken to:
- 25 were males - 14 said yes, 11 said no
- 27 were females - 17 said yes, 10 said no
- 11 of those people were 18-29 years of age
- 17 of those people were 30-55 years of age
- 24 of those people were 55+
Many of those 52 people had some interesting feedback to provide as to why they answered yes, or in some cases no.
Some of reasons that people’s opinion of travel insurance during the pandemic didn’t change was:
- They have faith in their vaccines
- Doesn't travel / too old to travel
- Too expensive to travel
- Already has travel insurance through work
- Doesn't care about travel insurance
Some of the reasons that people’s opinions of travel insurance during the pandemic did change was:
- Travel is expensive and they wanted to protect their vacation
- Lockdown or COVID-19 coverage in a foreign country
- Global issue, didn't want to take risks
- Susceptible to different variants while abroad
- Seniors that are retired and no longer get insurance through work
- They want to be protected
- COVID-19 already interrupted their trip and they lost money
- Always purchases travel insurance anyway
The confidence in which we travel has changed over the last two years no question, and this study highlights the reasons why. With almost an even split between the people who think differently about travel insurance and the people who don’t, it was interesting to discover that for over half of the people spoken to, they are thinking differently about purchasing travel insurance due to COVID-19 in light of all the different variables when travelling in this day and age.
