About Wawanesa Mutual Insurance

Wawanesa Mutual Insurance was founded in 1896 in Wawanesa, Manitoba. The union started as a way to protect farmers, and consequently the company quickly experienced growth in Western Canada. By 1910, Wawensa became the largest fire insurer company in the country, and in 1975 Wawensa became the first Canadian insurance company operating in the US, when it set up shop in California.
