Toronto Obituary and Mortality Rate

Residents of Toronto are living longer than before. The age-standardized all-cause mortality rate in Toronto decreased between 2001 and 2010 from 542 deaths per 100,000 people to 436 deaths per 100,000 people in 2010. Furthermore, a 2018 report shows a decrease in premature death in Ontario, however, gains in longevity are mostly seen in GTA.

Toronto residents love to celebrate their dead. While funeral services are usually organized to celebrate a deceased loved one, Toronto residents also organize obituaries in honour of the dead. An obituary, which includes a short biography of the deceased, serves as a notice of death to other residents and Canadians in general.
