Saguenay Health News

Doctors who made house calls in Quebec from June 1, 2016 made less money. This means that the survival of the mobile doctor service in the borough of Jonquiere in Saguenay is in jeopardy. Eight doctors in Jonquiere-Medic made 12,000 house calls in 2015 and the hospital has been serving the community for over 34 years.

According to Dr. Robert Gagnon, the founder of Jonquiere-Medic, the fee structure might bring an end to Jonquiere-Medic if nothing is done about it. The fee structure was a result of the passage of Bill 20 which ensured that 85% of Quebecers have access to a family doctor by 2017. It implied that doctors who made house calls in Jonquiere-Medic would lose 30-60% of their income.
