Mississauga Funeral Insurance News

A funeral home in Mississauga was shut down for a business practice considered to be shoddy. One of the funeral homes shut down in 2014 belonged to the brother of funeral homes owner accused of cutting corners during embalming.

The funeral home, known as Lee Funeral Home, is accused of not paying the debts it owes suppliers and the city. Due to the seriousness of the situation, Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion had to intervene.

The funeral home was formerly family-owned and had served Streetsville for almost 80 years. The ownership of the funeral home changed hands in 2012. The funeral home’s new owner, Roy Benipersaud is accusing the provincial regulator of trying to run him out of business maliciously while still doing its best to shut down Benisasia Funeral Home run by Benipersaud’s brother and sister-in-law.

Harris Rosen, the lawyer for both Benipersaud and owner of Benisasia said that the situation raised the question of selective prosecution. Rosen said that it is unusual at the very least and probably suspect. He said he does not really accept the fact that it is a mere coincidence.
