Learn about Boerboels Pet Insurance

The Boerboel is the popular protector of remote South African homesteads. They are intimidating, calm, intelligent and confident. They are mastiff-type dogs with profound agility. Boerboels have powerful jaws, broad and blocky head, and thick muscles from neck to rump. Although they are excellent guard dogs, they are also family-friendly and loving.

The name “Boerboel” stands for farmer’s dog; “boer” stands for “farmer”, while “boel” stands for “dog”. It is believed that the breed was developed by Dutch settlers in South Africa around the 1600s by crossing breeds of European bloodlines such as Bull Terriers, Old English Bulldog, and some mastiff-type dogs. Farmers needed the dogs to protect their homes from dangerous animals like leopards, hyenas, baboons and so on.

It is important to take out Boerboels pet insurance as soon as you purchase your dog. Pet insurance will usually cover pet-related medical expenses including the veterinary cost for the treatment of illness, injuries, diagnostic test, emergency care, hospitalization, surgery, etc.

Before taking out Boerboels pet insurance, it is advisable for pet owners to dedicate time to researching the coverage. By researching the coverage, you could compare policy options and shop around to choose the best pet insurance coverage for your Boerboel. Policy options could differ in features such as their exclusions, stipulations, restrictions, and waiting period. It is important to understand what is covered and what is not covered in the policy before purchasing the Boerboels pet insurance coverage.

Why Boerboels Pet Insurance Is Important

As a large Molosser-type dog, Boerboels are prone to musculoskeletal issues such as hip and elbow dysplasia. Hip dysplasia may cost up to $5,000 in veterinary treatment and elbow dysplasia cost from $1,500 to $4,000.

Without pet insurance, you would be left with no option than to pay for the veterinary cost out of pocket. The good news is that you can take out Boerboels pet insurance for comprehensive coverage in paying pet-related medical expenses.

Furthermore, make sure that the Boerboels pet insurance coverages most of the known conditions your pet might develop. Although the pet may not develop any of the conditions, it is important to be aware of them and take the necessary precautions. Pet insurance should be broad and have minimal exclusions.

Boerboels Pet Insurance News

The Boerboel Owners Group addressed the misinformation and consistent bashing on the internet and the media relating to the breed. Some dog experts have been quoted to generalize the breed as possessing ill temperament and dangerous qualities, the Boerboel Owners Group says “nothing could be further from the truth”.

Ray St. James says he’s the founder and administrator of the largest South African Boerboel Group on Facebook with more than 8,000 members across the world. Rays said that the breed continues to have inaccurate information and the public is inundated with generalizations influencing their opinion on the breed with false characteristic traits and negativity intended to build a level of fear.

According to St. James, those who take time to research and understand the origins of the breed have come to recognize it as not only obedient and playful but also loyal and loving companions. He says that the responsible parties have managed to strip all the positive attributes from generations of hard work and dedication to the breed.

St. James argued that the actions of these parties are inexcusable. He further said that most breeds have been accredited with attacks at one time or another. Fatalities and attacks have been linked to breeds like Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Labradoodles, Huskies, Shepherds, and so on, he said.

“I have sat back and allowed attack after attack to take place out of respect for the poor woman who lost her life as that should be at the forefront and overshadowed in anyway… No more. This needs to stop”, he says, “the same way the human race cannot be judged by actions of a select few, the canine realm cannot be exposed to negative assumptions on a breed-wide basis. You must be held accountable.”
