Learn about Dogues de Bordeaux Pet Insurance

The Dogue de Bordeaux is also known as Bordeauxdog or Mastiff of Bordeaux. It is the oldest or most ancient French dog breed. This breed was around even before France became France. Canines in this breed are incredibly kid-friendly and affectionate with their family. They have drooling potential and are easy to groom. The dog requires a lot of exercises in a day to stay healthy and fit.

The history of the Bordeauxdog stretches far into ancient times and so it is impossible to say exactly how the breed originated. Some historians believe that it is an indigenous French breed developed over thousands of years. Some others believe that the breed’s forebears include the Mastiff, Tibetan Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, and the Greek mastiff-types. However, the most dominant record says that Julius Caesar’s conquering legions introduced the breed to France, then called Gaul, in the first century BC.

No matter which of the historical records is correct, Bordeauxdog is an exceptional breed. Dogues de Bordeaux Pet Insurance News

Napoleon, a Dogue de Bordeaux, is described as a really nice dog by staff at the BC SPCA Abbotsford branch. But he has a different attitude and appearance being tied on a tree for most of his life.

Jodi Dunlop, SPCA Abbotsford branch manager said that they learned that the dog suffered wretched living conditions in all kinds of weather. He could not free himself, find shelter or eat when leashed around the tree. Most times, he is left to stand in several inches of mud. A cruelty investigation led to the surrendering of the dog to the BC SPCA.

The dog requires major dental surgery together with entropion surgery. He is suffering an extremely painful condition as his eyelashes grow into the eyes on both lower lids.

Dunlop said that Napoleon is really a nice dog, just over five years old and he is brave. “He is good with people and other dogs. We are hoping the public will help him have a much better life than the one he has experienced so far and eventually find a loving home”, he said.

Napoleon’s surgery will cost more than $1,000 but the Abbotsford-based Bakerview Pet Hospital is willing to perform the surgery at half the price.
