Flynn, a white Bichon Frise with dainty prance and fluffy coat clinched the best in show title at the Westminster Kennel Club show in New York on Tuesday, February 13, 2018.

This is a competition every dog and dog breeder wants to attend. It is held at Madison Square Garden. Thousands of dog enthusiasts attended the event, one of the four judges, Steve Dainard, is from Niagara Falls, Ontario.

During the competition, Dainard examined close to 100 dogs and eight different breeds. Although he is a popular dog judge and has judged several dog shows across the world, this was his first time at the Westminster event.

Speaking to CTV, Dainard said the event is unusual and enormous. “I have been there a few times before but when you are judging it is definitely a different caliber”, he said.

Dainard also pointed out that the judges have to take into consideration the standards set by the dog’s country of origin and then compare them to the written standards of the dogs in front of them. He explained that Flynn deserves the blue ribbon awarded to him.

“There were seven awesome dogs in the ring. All the dogs performed amazingly and it was really exciting”, he said. Dainard also said that the Bichon Frise will be given a lot of publicity and have an opportunity to meet people as a spokesdog of sorts for the Westminster Kennel Club.
