After a fire damaged a building in Moncton, fourteen residents of an apartment building are forced out of their home at 10 Belmont Street. According to Moncton Fire Chief Arsenault, firefighters were called to the building and arrived to find one unit completely engulfed.

Arsenault said that the unit was fully involved and the firefighters did a great job by getting there quickly and attacking the fire aggressively. He, however, added that the fire is still under investigation.

There were 10 units in the apartment building and everybody made it out of the building safely but a teacup Yorkshire Terrier was critically injured in the fire. The dog was transferred to a veterinary clinic for assessment as it requires resuscitation, Chief Arsenault said.

The head of disaster management at the Red Cross, Marc Belliveau, said they are providing assistance to 14 people in the building and none of the tenants had renter’s insurance. The Red Cross had to provide hotel accommodations for 72 hours for some while others will be staying with friends.
