Four Canadian pooches were awarded on the 50th edition of the golden anniversary of the Purina Animal Hall of Fame awards which were handed out in Toronto and they will always be worth their weight in gold to their owners.

The pooches include a 12-year-old whippet from St. Laurent, Quebec, named Sabrina; an 8-year-old former RCMP dog from Baddeck, Nova Scotia named Arik; a 2-year-old Lab-border collie mix named Lady and an 8-year-old Lab-border collie named Ruth from Okanagan Valley, B.C.

Sabrina was awarded because she helped save her owner Adele Schwartz who suffered a fall in September. The dog ran into her bedroom, pulled and nudged her husband Bill until he woke up.

Arik was awarded because he helped to track down a 90-year-old neighbor who broke his hip after hitting a patch of ice when out for a cross-country skiing.

Ruth and Lady were awarded because they saved their owners who were badly injured in a car crash. The dogs alerted the neighbors who followed them back to the owner Matthew Smith.
