Travel Insurance Overview

ireland flag

Canada enjoys a strong positive bilateral relationship with Ireland. The two countries share people-to-people, family, and cultural ties, democratic political traditions, and a mutually beneficial commercial relationship.

Furthermore, 14% of the Canadian population, more than 4.4 million Canadians, claims to have Irish ancestry. As a result, Irish is the fourth largest ethnic group in Canada. Also, young people from both countries can travel to either country to work up to two years; this is made possible via the Canada-Ireland Working Holiday Programme.

Whether you are traveling to Ireland for education, work, or tourism, you need to protect yourself and your family with the right Ireland travel insurance. The coverage should be comprehensive and cover medical emergencies, trip cancellation and so forth.

Ireland Travel Insurance News

Travel Guard Group Canada launched a pay-as-you-go travel insurance app, known as Travel Guard on Demand app, available on iPhones in March 2018. The app is designed to allow Canadians (with the exception of Quebecers) to buy travel insurance coverage in time blocks that ranged from 1 to 90 days.

Also, the app uses GPS technology to detect the traveler’s location in order to make coverage available to them from the time they travel out of their home province to the time they return. During the process, the app tracks the number of hours used.

The policy provides coverage that includes $2 million in emergency medical expenses, $1,600 in baggage and personal effects, $1,500 in emergency dental expenses, $1,500 in trip delays and so forth.

The app does not follow the normal or traditional insurance options including the annual plans or single trip. The company said in the release that usage-based insurance is a new concept in travel insurance. It is a method of buying and using travel insurance that puts the power on the palms of the travelers, allowing them to customize their protection period for each of their trips down to the hour.
