Coquitlam is a British Columbian city, located at the Lower Mainland area of the province. It has a population of 139,284, based on the 2016 population census and it is primarily a suburb city. Coquitlam is a metropolis in the Metro Vancouver region. It has a land area of 122.30 square kilometers and therefore a population density of 1,138.9 per square kilometer.
The community of Coquitlam is commonly referred to as a Bedroom Community because most of its residents work in other suburbs in Metro Vancouver such as Burnaby and Vancouver. However, its primary industrial area is located close to the Fraser River in the southern Maillardville/Fraser Mills. The City of Coquitlam is one of the largest employers of labor in the city with about 850 employees. Some other large employers include Art in Motion, Hard Rock Casino, Coca-Cola, Sony, and Rolls-Royce marine propulsion division.
Coquitlam’s location and proximity to Vancouver give it untold access to cultural assets and activities. Furthermore, the Department of Canadian Heritage designated the city of Coquitlam as the Cultural Capital of Canada in 2009. The city has more than 80 municipal parks and natural areas; Mundy Park is the biggest of the parks. Other parks include Pinecone Burke Provincial Park, Ridge Park, Minnekhada Regional Park, Town Center Park, Come Lake Park, Glen Park and so forth.
