A Toronto-based dog trainer, Maddisen Phelan, and her adventurous Border Collie, Rev, are among the top fans in a popular canine talent show.

The duo is finalists in the World’s Most Amazing Dog Competition that hosts on Facebook Watch. Phelan said she didn’t intend to enter the contest earlier and so she’s amazed at how far they got.

During the season finale, Rev, who was dressed in a sequin vest with red and gold colors, performed several tricks. Border Collie also performed tricks with his owner. Phelan said it was important to work together with the dog and be calm as well in order for the performance to go as planned.

The duo did their tricks in just one minute but thrilled the judges. The activities were judged based on personality, wow factor and difficulty. As Rev perched upright on his back paw, Phelan said that the Border Collie’s personality was one of the criteria considered when judging. She believes that her dog has the needed personality because he acts like a human and is comical.

The 5-year-old dog made it to the reality show by playing Connect Four. Phelan said she taught the dog to put a toonie or a coin in a piggy bank and that’s where he learned how to play the game.
