A prize-winning pure-bred American Staffordshire terrier, Gale, was boarding a flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when she escaped.

Gale was 22-months old at the time of the incident. She was heading back to Amsterdam with her handler after competing at an event in Louisville, Kentucky.

After Gale’s handlers boarded the plane, security informed them that the dog was missing. On hearing the news, the handlers immediately called her owners.

However, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines reports that Gale has been found. KLM also said that it is in the process of flying the dog back to its owner. Also, they thanked the Atlanta airport team and everyone involved in the search.

In a statement, KLM said that they carried out a thorough investigation and found out that the airport support staff improperly secured the cage and so the dog was able to get loose.

Jeff Miller, a wildlife biologist, said that the AmStaff is in excellent condition. Officials said that she was found in the rock quarry between two runways and the airport’s center complex.

A spokesperson for Hartsfield-Jackson Airport said that the entire airport has been on alert after the American Staffordshire terrier got missing. He also said that they searched through the airports as soon as they heard about it.
